Kurv Magazine, AusIndustry, Textile, Clothing and Footwear Program. The Australian Government’s Textile, Clothing and Footwear (TCF) Program is providing $25 million in grants over 10 years to Australia’s small designers and manufacturers.
Today Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Carr announced Sixty-three small businesses will share $2.6 million in funding ranging from $17,000 to $50,000, to assist these businesses become more innovative and strengthen the business culture of Australia’s TCF industries. Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Carr, said the program was aimed at making TCF small businesses more competitive by developing new processes, especially at the niche, high-value end of the market. “This round has again been extremely competitive, with over 250 businesses applying for grants,” Senator Carr said. “The strong response shows that the TCF sector is keen to embrace a culture of innovation and enterprise, and power through the tough market conditions. “Typical of the innovative approaches of grant recipients are projects to improve production processes, explore export markets, and embrace the internet as part of their business strategy. “These small businesses represent the next generation of TCF industries that employ 45,000 people, including many in regional Australia. The Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA), the leading award for Australia’s best emerging artists, designers, and creatives, has officially opened registrations to young achievers wanting to boost their careers with a once-in-a-lifetime mentorship and grants program. Talented Australians aged 30 and under across seven creative fields - fashion, film, visual arts, visual communications, music, industrial and object design and photography - are invited to submit their work for a chance to receive financial support in the form of $5000 in cash and $5000 in Qantas flights, as well as a rare 12-month mentorship opportunity with leading lights of the international creative community. In 2010, SOYA boasts a stellar line-up of inspirational mentors; Marc Newson (Design), Nicky and Simone Zimmermann (Fashion), Jan Chapman (Film), Tony Mott (Photography), Lee Groves (Music), Elizabeth Ann Macgregor (Visual Arts) and Deanne Cheuk (Visual Communication).
