The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today ( January 11, 2010) announced that seven films remain in competition in the Makeup category for the 82nd Academy Awards®.

The films are listed below in alphabetical order:

“District 9”
“Il Divo”
“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”
“Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian”
“The Road”
“Star Trek”
“The Young Victoria”

On Saturday, January 23, all members of the Academy’s Makeup Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

The 82nd Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2009 will be presented on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

A pentagonal perimeter fence encloses the large human complex on Pandora. Major weapons towers at each apex provide heavy munitions defence against surface and air intrusions by large hostile Pandoran wildlife, while four smaller towers spaced along each side handle intrusions by smaller life forms, including burrowing attacks. A cleared thirty-meter strip wide surrounds the base, regularly patrolled by automatic plant-clearing machinery that keeps the jungle at bay through regular administration of acidic mining by-products.

The 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF), presented by Cartier, held its Awards Gala at the Palm Springs Convention Centre on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 hosted by "Entertainment Tonight's" Mary Hart. Honourees were presented with either the John Kennedy "The Entertainer" statue or a Chihuly Glass Sculpture.

Roland Unterbusch was born in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany and is an awarded freelance architect and photographer.
“New York calls itself the capital of the world, exciting, busy, noisy, a city that never sleeps. As a photographer, I am always looking for a picture that hardly fits the cliché, I am always trying to make the invisible visible.
So on a rainy Monday morning I went down to Brooklyn, strolled in architecture and scenery in its broadest sense. Over and over again scales are checked and questioned by placing man with his inventions in wide sceneries and in front of large scale architecture.

Whether before buildings in endlessly wide scenery or single people in front of gigantic landscapes human beings seem like visitors who are apparently committing one stupidity after the other. The photographs try rather to document this with irony than value people and their actions”.
